His birth name is Tottempudi Gopichand, he was born on 12th Jun 1979 in Hyderabad to director T. Krishna. He did his studies in Chennai and completed his degree in engineering in Russia. During his college days he never wanted to be in films. But after completing his college he decided to take acting seriously and did a diploma course in dialogue modulation. He started his career as a news reader in ETV. He entered films with Telugu film Tholi Valapu in 2001 opposite Sneha and P. Ravi Shankar but the movie was a failure at box office. Gopichand later did a villain role in Telugu blockbuster Jayam in 2002 opposite Nitin and Sadha. The film was such a huge hit that it was remade in Tamil with same title. His villain character was so much appreciated by the film critics that he kept on doing villain roles for few more films like Nijam and Varsham. His first blockbuster hit movie as a hero was with Yagnam in 2004 alongside Sameera Banerjee and Prakash Raj.

Gopichand’s father T. Krishna was an editor and film director. He directed several Filmfare award winning films like Pratighatana, Neti Bharatham and Repati Pourulu. He gave birth to two sons & a daughter. T. Krishna died on 8th May in 1987. His last film was Repati Pourulu released in 1988. Gopichand was just 8 years old kid when his lost his father.
He paternal grand mother Tottempudi Ratnamma died in 2013. He lost his parents when he was very young and his brother also died when he was 30 years old. He was very close to his grandmother Tottempudi Ratnamma.
He has a elder brother named T. Premchand. He started his career as an associate director. Unfortunately Premchand died in an accident during the filming of his debut film in 1995. Gopichand was in Russia studying engineering when his brother died and due to Visa problems he could not even attend the funeral.
He has an elder sister, a dentist.
Gopichand married Reshma on 12th May 2013. Reshma is the niece of actor Meka Srikanth.
