Short biography
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on 7th July 1981 in Ranchi, Jharkhand state. He attended DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Jharkhand. During his school days he used to play badminton and football for his school team. He was a goalkeeper for his football team and one day his coach sent him to play cricket, everybody was impressed by his wicket-keeping skills. Dhoni subsequently took cricket seriously and played for Commando cricket club.
After completion of his education he started his cricket career representing Central Coal Fields Limited team in 1998. He also played for Bihar U-19 in 1998–99, his Ranji Trophy debut was in 1999–2000 season representing Bihar. At the beginning of his career he worked as a Train Ticket Examiner in 2001 at Kharagpur railway station, in West Bengal. He gained more recognition while playing for Jharkhand cricket team in 2002–03 Ranji Trophy.
He entered Indian cricket team in 2003/04 playing for in tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya. He impressed everyone with his wicket-keeping where he had 7 catches and 4 stumpings. He established himself as solid performer through his batting line in his fifth one-day international by scoring 148 off 123 balls in Vishakapatnam, 183 off 145 balls against Sri Lankan team in Jaipur, etc.
M.S Dhoni rose to fame playing as the captain of Indian team in ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 where India won the world cup. He subsequently became ODI captain for seven-match ODI series against Australia. He also made his debut as Test captain during Test against Australia at Nagpur in 2008 wherein he replaced Anil Kumble after he was injured. His caliber as a captain was appreciated when India had an amazing victory in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup beating Sri Lankan team.
Considering his contributions to Indian cricket he was honoured with Padma Shri Award by the Governament of India in 2009.

He was born to Pan Singh, manager in MECON and Devki Devi, a house maker. His father is from Lvali village, Almora District, Uttarakhand.
Brother
He has an elder brother named Narendra Singh Dhoni who is a politician. He joined BJP in 2009 but left the party as he was not happy with the leaders. In joined Samajwadi Party in 2013.
Sister
Dhoni has a sister named Jayanti Gupta, an English teacher.

M.S Dhoni is married to Sakshi Singh Rawat since 4th July 2010. His wife Sakshi Singh Rawat is from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. She studied hotel management and worked at Taj Bengal, Kolkata. The couple gave birth to a baby girl on 6th February 2015.
