Short biography

Abhishek Bachchan was born on 5th Feb 1976 in Mumbai to Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. His grandfather paternal Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a poet and professor at the Allahabad University. Abhishek’s original surname was Srivastava and he prefered to use Bachchan for his screen name. Abhishek Bachchan had dyslexic, a reading disorder as a child. He went to Jamnabai Narsee School, Bombay Scottish School, Modern School in India, Aiglon College, Switzerland and Boston University, United States. Bachchan made his film debut with Refugee in 2000 alongside Kareena Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Sunil Shetty. His career took a big break after the blockbuster hit film Dhoom in 2004 alongside John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Rimi Sen and Esha Deol. Abhishek Bachchan was engaged to actress Karisma Kapoor in Oct 2002 but in 2003 her engagement was called off. He married Aishwarya Rai on 20th April 2007.

Father

Abhishek Bachchan’s father Amitabh Bachchan was born on 11th Oct 1942 in Allahabad to Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a poet and Teji Bachchan. Amitabh has a younger brother named Ajitabh. Bachchan attended Sherwood College, Nainital and Kirori Mal College, Delhi. Amitabh married actress Jaya Bhaduri on 3rd Jun 1973 and gave birth to Shweta Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan. Amitabh made his film debut with Bhuvan Shome in 1969 as a voice narrator. His Hollywood debut was with The Great Gatsby in 2013 opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.

Mother

Abhishek’s mother Jaya Bhaduri was born in 1948 in Jabalpur, India to Taroon Kumar Bhaduri, a writer and Indira Bhaduri. She attended St. Joseph’s Convent School in Bhopal. Jaya Bhaduri married Amitabh Bachchan on 3rd Jun 1973 the couple have two children named Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. She made her Bollywood film debut with Mahanagar in 1963 opposite Anil Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee. She was honoured with Padma Shri award in 1992 by Indian Government for her contribution to films. Jaya Bachchan was elected as a member of Rajya Sabha and in 2012 was re-elected in 2012.

Sister

He has an elder sister named Shweta Bachchan born on 1974. She is married to Nikhil Nanda, Managing Director of Escorts Limited.

Wife

His wife Aishwarya Rai was born on 1st Nov 1973 in Mangalore to Krishnaraj, a biologist and Brinda, a home maker. She has an elder brother named Aditya Rai, an engineer. She attended Arya Vidya Mandir High School, Jai Hind College and DG Ruparel College. Aishwarya won Miss World pageant title in 1994. She made her acting debut with Tamil film Iruvar in 1997 alongside Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Tabu, Gouthami and Revathi. She was honoured with Padma Shri Award by the Indian Government in 2009. She dated Salman Khan for sometime before marrying Abhishek Bachchan on 20 April 2007.

Daughter

The couple gave birth to baby girl on 16th Nov 2011. The baby was popularly named as “Beti B” by the media and it was very difficult for the family to name her baby and took several months to name. Finally the girl was named as Aaradhya in 2012.
