Short biography
Pankaj Kapur was born on 29th May 1954 in Ludhiana, Punjab state. He studied Engineering in New Delhi and subsequently attended National School of Drama New Delhi graduating in 1976. After completion of his graduation he worked for theatres for four years. His most successful films are Raakh in 1989, Ek Doctor Ki Maut in 1991 and Maqbool in 2003, he won National Film Awards for all three films.
His acting debut was with benegal’s film Arohan released in 1982, in the same year he appeared in film Gandhi directed by Richard Attenborough. He gained popularity after Television serial Karamchand aired in 1985 on Doordarshan. He also ventured into film direction in 2011 through Mausam co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.
