Short biography

Sunny Deol was born on 19th Oct 1956 in Sahnewal, Punjab. His father Dharmendra is a bollywood actor and his mother Prakash Kaur is a home maker. His birth name is Ajay Singh Deol. He is the eldest son of Dharmendra, his younger brother Bobby Deol is also an actor. He has two sisters named Vijayta Deol & Ajeeta Deol. Sunny Deol went to England to study acting and joined Old Rep Theater. He made his Bollywood acting debut with Betaab in 1984 alongside Amrita Singh and Shammi Kapoor, it was a huge commercial hit. His biggest blockbuster films are Border in 1997 and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001, they are still considered as few among the Bollywood’s biggest hits. He won two National Film Awards.

Parents

His father Dharmendra was born on 8th Dec 1935 in Punjab to Kewal Kishan Singh Deol & Satwant Kaur. His father Kewal Kishan Singh Deol was a teacher. Dharmendra married to Parkash Kaur in 1954 and the couple gave birth to four children. He made Bollywood acting debut with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960 opposite Balraj Sahni. His biggest blockbuster hit was Sholay in 1975 alongside Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan and Jaya Bhaduri. He is a BJP member and became member of 14th Lok Sabha from Bikaner constituency. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2012 by Indian Govt.

Brother

Sunny Deol’s brother Bobby Deol is also an actor, his birth name was Vijay Singh Deol. He was born on 27th Jan 1969 in Mumbai. He made Bollywood acting debut with Barsaat in 1995 opposite Twinkle Khanna. He earned fame after his blockbuster thriller films like Gupt, Jurm, Badal and Bichhoo.

Sisters

Sunny has two sisters named Vijayta Deol & Ajeeta Deol, both of them are now settled in California.

Step mother

His father Dharmendra fell in love with Hema Malini and married her in 1980, the couple gave birth to two daughters named Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Hema Malini was born on 16th Oct 1948 in Tamil Nadu. She made her acting debut with Sapno Ka Saudagar in 1968. She was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2000 by Govt of India.

Half sisters

Sunny’s father Dharmendra married Hema Malini in 1980 and the couple gave birth to Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Both the daughters are trained dancers and actresses.

Cousin

Actor Abhay Deol is also an actor. Abhay’s father Ajit Singh Deol is Dharmendra’s brother.

Wife and sons

Sunny Deol is married to Pooja Deol and they have two sons named Karan Deol & Rajvir Deol. His elder son Karan Deol worked as an assistant to Sangeeth Sivan for the film Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 in 2013.
