Short biography
Genelia D’Souza was born on 5th Aug 1987 in Mumbai to Neil D’Souza and Jeanette D’Souza. She was born in a Mangalorean Catholic family and Konkani is her mother tongue. Her name Genelia means “rare” or “unique”. Genelia attended Apostolic Carmel High School and St. Andrew’s College in Bandra, she has a degree in Management. Since her school days she was an athlete and played in national level football. She wanted to join a MNC but accidentally ended up in films. She started her career as a model and her first commercials were Parker Pen with Amitabh Bachchan and Fair and Lovely in 2003 Cricket World Cup. Genelia started her Bollywood career with Tujhe Meri Kasam alongside Ritesh Deshmukh and Shriya Saran in 2003. Her Tamil film debut was with Boys in 2003 alongside Siddharth, Bharath and S. Thaman. Genelia is very religious and attends Sunday Mass without failing at St. Anne’s Parish in Bandra. Genelia D’Souza dated Ritesh Deshmukh few years before marrying him on 3rd Feb 2012. She married him two times first according to Hindu traditions and secondly as per Roman Catholic ceremonies.

Her mother Jeanette D’Souza worked as a director of a Pharmaceutical company, she left her job to help Genelia with her acting career. Her father Neil D’Souza worked in Tata Consultancy Services as a senior official.

Husband
Her husband Ritesh Deshmukh was born on 17th Dec 1978 in Latur, Maharashtra. Deshmukh has a degree in architecture from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute. Before coming to India he practiced in an overseas architectural firm. Deshmukh made his acting debut with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003 opposite his wife Genelia D’Souza.

Ritesh Deshmukh’s father Vilasrao Deshmukh was a politician who served as a two time Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He also served as Minister of central government holding portfolios of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Heavy Industries, Ministry of Science and Technology etc. Ritesh’s brothers Amit Deshmukh and Dheeraj Deshmukh are also politicians.
