Short biography
Roopa Ganguly was born on 25th November 1966 in Kolkata, West Bengal state. She did her schooling from Beltala Girls’ High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Jogamaya Devi College, University of Calcutta, Kolkata.
After completion of her graduation she made her film debut in 1985 through Bollywood film Saaheb co-starring Anil Kapoor. Her second film was Malayalam film, Ithile Iniyum Varu opposite Mammootty. She gained worldwide recognition after appearing in B.R. Chopra’s TV show Mahabharat in 1988 wherein she portrayed the role of Draupadi.
She subsequently appeared in numerous award winning films like Ek Din Achanak, Padma Nadir Majhi, Yugant, Abar Aranye, Antarmahal, among other films. Apart from films she is also involved in television shows like Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Chandrakanta, Sacch Ka Saamna, Love Story, Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya etc.
She joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2015.
