Short biography
Shabana Azmi was born into a Muslim family on 18th September 1950 in Hyderabad, Hyderabad State. She attended Queen Mary School, in Mumbai. She holds bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. After completion of her formal education she joined Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
Her film debut was in 1974 through Ankur opposite Anant Nag, movie was a big commercial hit and Shabana earned her first National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film. She consecutively earned three National awards from 1983 to 1985 for Arth, Khandhar and Paar. Since her debut she appeared in more than 120 Bollywood and Bengali films. She made her television entry in 2013 through Hindi serial “24” aired on Colors channel.
