Short biography
Shakti Kapoor was born into a Punjabi family on 3rd September 1958 in Delhi, India. He attended Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He started his film career playing very small roles in Bollywood. His breakthrough was through Qurbani in 1980 and Rocky in 1981, the two films were blockbuster hits at box office and established him as a main villain in industry. While working for antagonist role in Rocky he thought of using ‘Shakti Kapoor’ as screen name instead of his original name ‘Sunil Kapoor’ which he thought to be weak for a villain.
He is a versatile actor apart from being antagonist he also made several positive comic roles and won Filmfare Best Comedian Award for his role in Raja Babu. During his decades long career he appeared in numerous commercial hits like Chup Chup Ke co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Susma Reddy and Sunil Shetty, Bol Radha Bol co-starring Juhi Chawla, Rishi Kapoor and Alok Nath, ChaalBaaz co-starring Sunny Deol, Rajinikanth, Sridevi, Anupam Kher and Pankaj Parashar, Tohfa co-starring Sridevi, Jeetendra, Kadar Khan and Jaya Pradha, Andaz Apna Apna co-starring Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Insaaf, among other films.
He took part in Bigg Boss season 5 in 2011 as one of the contestants and was eliminated on 28th day.
