Short biography
Actor Prabhu Deva was born on 3rd April 1973 in Mysore, Karnataka state. His birth name is Prabhudheva Sundaram. Since his father was a choreographer Prabhu Deva also developed interest in dance forms and learnt classical dance forms including Bharatanatyam under gurus like Dharmaraj and Lakshminarayanan. Later he also learnt Western dance styles.
Prabhu Deva made his debut as a choreographer with Tamil film Vetri Vizha in 1989, since then he worked for more than 100 movies. While working as a choreographer he developed interest for acting and made his acting debut with Indhu in 1994 co-starring Roja. His first blockbuster hit was Kaadhalan in 1994 co-starring Nagma and Vadivelu. He subsequently impressed box office with hits like Love Birds co-starring Sarath Babu, Nagma and Vadivelu, Minsara Kanavu Arvind Swamy and Kajol, Kaathala Kaathala co-starring Kamal Haasan, Soundarya and Rambha, Vanathai Pola with Vijayakanth, Meena, Kausalya and Livingston.
After a decade of experience in cinema he ventured into film direction with Telugu movie Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana in 2005 starring Siddharth Narayan, Trisha Krishnan and Prakash Raj, the film was a huge commercial hit and remade in other languages. He subsequently directed big budgets films like Shankardada Zindabad, Pokkiri ,Wanted, Rowdy Rathore etc. He is working in several languages including Tamil, Bollywood, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Prabhu Deva married Ramlath who is also known as Latha in 1995. The couple gave birth to three children, unfortunately their eldest son died of in 2008 fighting cancer. In 2010 there were disputes between Prabhu Deva and his wife regarding his relationship with actress Nayantara. In December 2010 the couple filed petition for divorce by mutual consent, their divorce was finalized in 2011.
