Biography & trivia

*   Crazy star Ravichandran was born on 30th May 1961 in Bangalore.

*  Ravichandran is popularly known as Crazy Star, Kanasugara, Ravimama, Showman etc by his fans.

*  Ravichandran’s father N. Veeraswamy was a well known film producer in Kannada cinema industry who established Sri Eswari Productions, today the production house is run by Ravichandran.

*  He started his acting career when he was just 20 years old with and worked for films produced by his father. His acting debut was with “Khadeema Kallaru” in 1984 but most of his initial films failed to gain him stardom. His biggest blockbuster was “Premaloka” in 1987 alongside Juhi Chawla, music was composed by Hamsalekha, the movie went viral all over Karnataka and its the first and biggest audio hit in the history of Kannada film industry. Later the film was dubbed in Tamil & in Telugu also.

*  Premaloka was Ravichandran’s directorial debut and the film had the budget of one crore rupees, it was the highest budget film in Kannada at that time.

*  After the success of Premaloka music director Hamsalekha teamed up with him for a decade and delivered all time audio hits in kannada cinema. But the couple parted after “Preethsod Thappa” and during this time Ravichandran worked as music director and gave hits like Ekangi & Aham Premasmi,but despite of that he was considered as an average musician compared to himself as a director. Hamsalekha and Ravichandran joined together in “Ondagona Baa” which turned out to be a huge hit again.

*  His subsequent films like Ranadheera, Anjada Gandu, Ramachaari, Yuddha Kaanda, Halli Meshtru, Annayya, Gadibidi Ganda, Sipayi etc were huge box office hit and remained as benchmark romantic films in the film history.

*  Ravichandran also has the reputation of introducing many actresses to Kannada film industry including Juhi Chawla, Khushbu, Shilpa Shetty etc.

*  Ravichandran is known as the perfectionist in kannada cinema, as Aamir Khan in Bollywood. He never gives up until he takes satisfactory work out of all artists and technicians, many times it led to re-shooting increasing the budget considerably.

“Many people don’t like my involvement and consider it as an interference in their work! So, I will do what I have been asked to do. I will be a good student from now.”

“Success is taken into consideration and failure is not. I think we have to be more competitive. It is not possible for us to compete with other language films in terms of budget. But we can definitely compete with good subjects.”

“I don’t charge much. I have suggested for a package deal that includes acting, story, screenplay, music, lyrics, editing etc. I have worked on the deadline after my home banners like ‘Shanthi Kranthi’ ten years ago and Aham Premasmi’ very recently was a debacle.”
